Rain!!!
Tues June 26
Ha, the pundits are cross. We (The greater area of Sydney) were going for a record of the driest May in recorded history. 20 mls is the expected rainfall today. Gardeners everywhere are rejoicing (in secret of course) as our plants are drinking up all that moisture and may just get another little growth spurt before it starts getting cold.
We have pretty good weather all round here in Sydney. It is sunny most of the time but if you listen to the majority of the population you would think we were the wettest city south of the Equator. On the train coming into work this morning I could hear people making those tsking noises about the rain and rolling their eyes and complaining. OMG people!!! The last time water fell from the sky over Sydney was back in April. Has anyone even noticed how long it has been?? The big fear of our farmers and home gardeners is that we are heading back into drought. A lot of city people only think about how crappy the day is because it’s not a nice day to head to the beach. Who is going to grow your designer lettuce for you if there is no rain – China!!! Chillax and let it be or if that’s too hard think of your next Aussie grown salads.
I ache to just turn around and go back home some days to sit in the solitude of the garden where I can appreciate the rain or sunshine for the good it does and not for the inconvenience it causes.
